How do I join a game?

Enter the game’s 6-character code or scan its QR code. Pick a name for that game; there is no account to create.

Why does Getaway ask for “Always” location?

It lets the game keep working with your phone locked. Location is collected only from joining a game until its roll call ends, including while the app is closed or the phone is locked. Outside a game, Getaway does not collect your location. In a lobby, nobody sees where you are.

You can turn off background location in your iPhone’s settings, but that can interrupt the game when your phone is locked. You can still try a Practice run if you refuse location access. The Privacy Policy explains who can see your location.

What happens with no signal?

Positions are buffered on your phone and sent when signal returns. Until then, other players will not receive those updates. Practice runs need no signal.

How can I save battery?

• Charge your phone before a round, and bring a charged power bank for a longer outing.
• Keep the screen locked when you are not checking the game, and lower the brightness when you do check it.
• Agree on a round length that leaves everyone enough battery for the trip home.

Check the game only after stopping somewhere safe. Your team can see your battery level.

How do scans and lock-on work?

Chasers receive blurred location scans every few minutes, rather than live Crew positions during the chase. To lock on, stay close to the target. Scans are clues, so do not treat them as exact or current positions.

Live positions can be shown when the rules allow it, for example when a player leaves the play area or raises an SOS. Everyone sees everyone at roll call.

What is a Practice run?

A Practice run is a game against three bots. It needs no account and no signal.

Which rounds count toward achievements?

On iPhone, achievements are reported to Apple Game Center if you are signed in to it. Only real rounds with at least 3 players and lasting at least 5 minutes count. Practice earns only “Dry Run”.

What does an SOS do?

An SOS alerts only the players in your game and makes your location visible to them. It does not contact emergency services. In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Getaway is not a safety device, and a lack of signal can delay game updates.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, choose Settings > Delete my local data to remove settings, achievements and positions waiting to be sent from your phone.

Server data for a round, including routes for replay, is deleted within 72 hours of the round ending. Lobbies that nobody uses are deleted after 24 hours. Nothing is kept beyond 7 days. Ride safe

Getaway is meant for ages 13 and over. Younger players should play with an adult in the Sweep seat.

Agree on a suitable play area before starting. In Trail mode, use only trails or riding areas where your bike, dirt bike, e-bike, horse or ATV is allowed.
