Planning real-world hide and seek: an app or a manual game?
A real-world hide-and-seek game needs agreed boundaries, a way to stop, and players who understand the rules. Getaway: Hide & Seek is being developed around Crew and Chaser roles, with a Practice mode using bots. It is a game, not an emergency service or a substitute for a safe play area.

Compare the approaches
| Approach | Useful for | Limit or tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Manual game | Choose rules, boundaries and meeting points together. | Players must manage timing and communicate changes themselves. |
| Timer and group messages | Coordinate a small game with tools you already have. | Messages do not apply game rules or filter location by team. |
| Getaway: Hide & Seek | Structured roles and an offline Practice mode. | Online play needs a reachable game server, location access and device testing. |
Start with the rules, not the map
Agree on a legal play area, safe routes, a stop signal and a final meeting point. Practice offers a way to explore the app rules without a live group. A manually organized game may be preferable when you want minimal setup or cannot rely on connectivity.
Location is part of the game
During an online game, location is sent to the server, including in the background when permitted, and shared according to the rules. Opposing teams do not always receive the same view; roll call reveals players to one another. Battery, permissions and signal affect participation. Do not treat a map, SOS control or online connection as a guarantee of safety.
