Tobacco Vault, a notebook, or a spreadsheet?
For adults of legal tobacco age who already maintain a collection, the useful question is how to keep records. Tobacco Vault combines factual catalog references with personal notes and storage records. A notebook or spreadsheet may be enough if you prefer manual entry and control over where your records live.

Compare the approaches
| Approach | Useful for | Limit or tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Paper notebook | Flexible notes without a service account. | Searching, totals and backups are manual. |
| Spreadsheet | Custom columns and calculations in a file you choose. | You maintain references, structure and sharing yourself. |
| Tobacco Vault | Catalog-linked records, lots and storage locations. | Account-linked records use a hosted API; offline access is partial. |
Choose by recordkeeping needs
Tobacco Vault can organize quantities, weights and lots, search reference information, and compare factual fields. It is not a tobacco retailer. Catalog coverage and image quality vary. A spreadsheet is a reasonable choice when your own columns and calculations matter more than catalog links.
Check privacy and export before switching
New profiles start private; publishing a review is a separate choice. Cached information and unsynced journal drafts provide limited offline access, not a complete offline database. Text and structured exports exclude photo files, unsynced drafts and inventory event history. Keep copies of anything you need before changing tools. Tobacco use carries serious health risks; this guide concerns records, not which products to buy.
